THE PORT SQUARE HOTEL

Concept

An office building in Odissa square next to E6/E7 gates, from where ships for Cyclades islands depart was just a property, privileged/ conveniently located in the center of business world of Piraeus. Until Tresor Hospitality, in collaboration with the architectural office ELEVEN CONSTRUCTION, undertook to give it a new life. Today it’s as a hotel-point of landmark for the port and the wider area. The reason for The Port Square Hotel.

A casing charactered by the retro urban character where dominated Greece at the time of reconstruction houses, functions that performed with the help of the newest technology. The Port Square Hotel is a “smart” hotel with 53 rooms-suites, which aspires to become an ideal destination for the business traveler who comes to Piraeus or a (quick) stop for the lover of Greek islands in his way to and from the Aegean Sea.

Challenges

The dominant architecture earmark, the façade, provides an unobstructed view to the Odissa square and ensures an abundant natural light in the building’s spaces. The façade had to have the best possible management in order to these advantages and stand out the urban character of the building but at the same time ensure the privacy and comfort that a hospitality place should be provide to the visitor. In a building with such wide openings and located in the busiest place with an intense activity day and night, sound insulation was the main concern and a key technical feature of the aluminum systems that would be used to complete the project.

The requirements from the aluminum system

The main aspiration of the project regarding the aluminum systems was:

• To have the necessary performances as these significantly affect the quality of the hotel’s services provided.
• to implement the construction and installation within the required timescales as the hotel had to catch up with the tourist season.
• To use systems that offer on an aesthetic level the desired results as it was analyzed during the planning of the project
• not to exceed the prescribed cost

The answer

The collaboration between the architectural office and the (aluminum) manufacturer was former yet reliable. The manufacturer, in coordination to/communication with the architectural office, turned to Europa’s Project Department. Europa’s Project Department, made a decisive contribution to the study, defining the appropriate specification of the frames, while at the same time acting as a consultant, in order to select the best possible system and the suitable construction forms. Furthermore, Europa’s Project Department remained on   the side both manufacturer and the architectural office as long it was necessary/needed and based on the conditions they set.

Quality

Europa’s purpose is to provide support at the projects, with fully respect to the requirements of the partners, construction/architectural office and aluminum manufacturer. In this way achieved the best possible result in the case of Port Square Hotel. Eleven Construction has completed and delivered an exemplar project, a reference point of the region, which can be enjoyed by every visitor.
